ICON Project as its mission, “Hyperconnect the World” suggests, is a global project that seeks to create an environment in which blockchain technology is implemented in our everyday lives by connecting various blockchain networks. It is a high performance 3rd generation blockchain protocol with interoperability.
In addition to creating a platform that connects blockchain networks, ICON is simultaneously cultivating a blockchain ecosystem of its own by discovering new blockchain projects and romoting them.

loopchain, ICON’s core blockchain engine
loopchain is a high-performance blockchain engine developed by theloop. loopchain is the private enterprise version used as the core blockchain engine of ICON, the public chain version. Thus the team of theloop and the team of ICON can be considered one and the same. It is currently leading the Korean blockchain industry by being actually utilized in various fields including financial securities, insurance, banks, universities, hospitals, and education. It is currently:
- Securities : ‘Chain ID’, the world’s first blockchain joint authentication service, has been developed on loopchain. "Chain ID" on smartphone is currently being operated and developed by 11 financial securities firms. - Insurance : In 2017, ICON and Kyobo Life launched Smart Insurance Claims service using loopchain technology. This service streamlined the complicated insurance claiming process. - Bank : Banks on the ICON network including Woori Bank have issued prepaid electronic coins. These coins allow for a variety of banking tasks including the insurance and transaction of blockchain-based digital currency and management of virtual account.
- Universities : U-Coin is a blockchain-based virtual currency. It provides universities with convenience by offering cryptocurrency charging services that entail payments and remittances through Smart Vending Machine.
- Hospitals : Precision Healthcare Information System (P-HIS) is the largest healthcare information consortium that ensures the integrity of leading South Korean hospitals’ data, provides a data sharing module, and develops H-sign, a blockchain-based digital signature system. ICON’s blockchain technology is being utilized in the P-HIS enterprise in order to enhance the security of medical data.
- Education : ICON seeks to create a blockchain education ecosystem. It recently formed a strategic partnership with TRIVE, a Venture Capital firm based in Singapore, to vitalize the blockchain community education in Southeast Asia.
