About
With the Audi and Lamborghini brands, the Audi Group has long been one of the most successful car manufacturers in the premium and supercar segment. Since 2012, motorbikes from the traditional Italian brand Ducati have supplemented the range. Furthermore, the Audi Group also supplies other Volkswagen Group brands to customers via sales companies.
Economic development
Key strategic decisions, such as the opening of our first automobile plant in North America and the healthy volume development of our vehicles influenced our business performance in 2016. The Company increased deliveries of the core brand Audi by 3.6 percent to a new record level of 1,867,738 (1,803,246) cars. Also as a result of this development in volume, the revenue of the Audi Group increased by 1.5 percent to EUR 59,317 (58,420) million.
The operating return on sales was impacted by special items especially in connection with the diesel issue. Before special items, we achieved our strategic target with an operating return on sales of 8.2 percent. At the same time, we also invested in the ongoing expansion of our model and technology portfolio and in our international manufacturing structures in the 2016 fiscal year.
Sporty, sophisticated and progressive – the premium vehicles from the Audi brand
In the past fiscal year, the Audi Group delivered a total of 2,088,187 (2,024,881) cars to customers. The core brand Audi increased its delivery volume by 3.6 percent to 1,867,738 (1,803,246) vehicles – a new record in company history. The brand with the Four Rings is renowned in particular for its unmistakable design, innovative technologies and high quality standards.
Italian, uncompromising and exclusive – the supercars from the Lamborghini brand and the sporty motorcycles with unique technology from the Ducati brand.
The high-performance models of traditional Italian brand Lamborghini are the embodiment of extreme driving dynamics, modern and unmistakable design, lightweight construction as well as high-quality materials and workmanship.
The motorcycles of the Ducati brand are noted above all for their sports appeal, modern design, low weight and powerful engines.
3,457 (3,245) supercars of the Lamborghini brand and 55,451 (54,809) sporty motorcycles of the Ducati brand were delivered in the past fiscal year.
Group structure and material companies
- Ingolstadt
A large proportion of the production is based at Group headquarters in Ingolstadt, as well as technical development, sales and administration. Here, in addition to the A3/S3 and the A3/S3 Sportback, Audi produces the plug-in hybrid model A3 e-tron as well as the A3 g-tron, which can run on natural gas, gasoline or e-gas produced by Audi. The Audi RS 3 Sportback, the models in the A4 family as well as the A5 Coupé, A5 Sportback and the RS 5 Coupé are also manufactured here. The Audi Q2, the latest model in the product portfolio of AUDI AG, also rolls off the production line in Ingolstadt.
- Neckarsulm
In Neckarsulm, Audi builds the Audi A4 Sedan, the A5 Cabriolet, the models in the A6 series including the RS 6 Avant, the A7 and RS 7 Sportback, as well as the A8 luxury Sedan. Neckarsulm is also home to Audi Sport GmbH – a fully owned subsidiary of AUDI AG. In addition to the high-performance models in the R8 series, which are built exclusively at the Neckarsulm plant, Audi Sport GmbH supplies customers with RS models, the sporty high-performance vehicles that represent the top models in the respective series. Furthermore, Audi Sport GmbH offers exclusive customisation options and high-quality lifestyle articles relating to the Audi brand. Audi Sport GmbH is also responsible for Audi Sport customer racing.
- International production locations
In Győr (Hungary), AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. develops and manufactures engines for AUDI AG, for other companies in the Volkswagen Group and for third parties. As part of extending the plant at the Győr site, Audi built a car manufacturing facility with a complete production chain – from press shop, body shop and paint shop through to assembly. In June 2013, series production of the A3 Sedan started at the site, and production of the A3 Cabriolet began in October 2013. The TT and TT Roadster models are also produced here. Since it was established in 1993, the company has developed into one of the largest exporters and highest-revenue companies in Hungary.
The models in the A1 family are made exclusively in Brussels (Belgium) by AUDI BRUSSELS S.A./N.V.
Within the Volkswagen Group’s production network, Audi also builds the SUV models Q7, SQ7, Q7 e-tron, Q3 and the RS Q3 at the sites in Bratislava (Slovakia) and Martorell (Spain), while the A6 Sedan, A7 Sportback, Q7 and long-wheelbase A8 L are manufactured in Kaluga (Russia).
In Aurangabad (India), the A3 Sedan, A4 Sedan and A6 Sedan are built along with the Q3, Q5 and Q7 at facilities within the Volkswagen Group production network.
In Changchun (China), the long-wheelbase A4 L and A6 L Sedans, the Q3 and the Q5 are produced for the local market by the associated company FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Company, Ltd. Since the end of 2016, the first locally produced Audi plug-in hybrid – the Audi e-tron – has come off the assembly line in Changchun. In 2014, production of the Audi A3 Sportback and Audi A3 Sedan began in Foshan.
In addition, Audi has had a production facility in Curitiba (Brazil) since 2015. The A3 Sedan and the Q3 come off the assembly line here, in the south of the world’s sixth largest economy.
Our latest automotive plant was opened in San José Chiapa (Mexico) in 2016. The second-generation Audi Q5 is being built here for the world market.
Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. builds exclusive supercars in Sant’Agata Bolognese in northern Italy, where it produces the Aventador and Huracán supercars.
Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. produces all models in its product portfolio at its corporate headquarters in Bologna (Italy). The company also builds motorcycles from the Diavel, Hypermotard, Monster, Multistrada, Superbike and Scrambler series in Amphur Pluakdaeng (Thailand). Furthermore, the Diavel, Hypermotard, Multistrada, Superbike, Monster and Scrambler models are produced in Manaus (Brazil) on a contract manufacturing basis.
Consolidated companies
Volkswagen AG, Wolfsburg, holds around 99.55 per cent of the share capital of AUDI AG. A control and profit transfer agreement exists between the two companies. Instead of a dividend, outside shareholders of AUDI AG receive a compensatory payment on their stockholding. The amount is based on the dividend paid on one Volkswagen AG ordinary share, which is determined at the Annual General Meeting of Volkswagen AG. AUDI AG shares are traded on seven stock exchanges.
