"The Samuel Project" Starring Hal Linden & Ryan Ochoa Receives Expanded Multi-City Release Through AMC Independent

PR Newswire

LOS ANGELES and NEW YORK, Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The comedic drama "The Samuel Project" starring Hal Linden and Ryan Ochoa has been selected by AMC Theatres® (NYSE:AMC) for its prestigious AMC Independent (AMCi) program, leading to an expanded national theatrical release that will bring the film to a total of more than 40 markets, representing a significant increase from its original 25-market planned release.

Opening in New York this week starting Friday, Sept. 28, followed by a national engagement starting Oct. 4, the award-winning film stars Emmy and Tony winner Hal Linden, best known as the title character from "Barney Miller," and young, leading man on-the-verge, Ryan Ochoa, who built a strong, engaged fan base with his starring roles in multiple Disney and Nickelodeon TV shows and movies.

"As a proud and longtime supporter of independent filmmakers, AMC is excited to provide a platform for moviegoers to enjoy "The Samuel Project" at select AMC Independent locations nationwide," states Nikkole Denson-Randolph, AMC's VP of Inclusive Programming.

The film's writer-director Marc Fusco adds, "Audiences are hungry for independent, character-driven films like ours which are a refreshing alternative to the big blockbuster franchises.  It's exciting for our film, which has already found passionate fans, to have AMC in its corner helping us reach new audiences."

The film is about a teenager (Ochoa) who gets to know his grandfather Samuel (Linden) for the first time when he makes him the subject of an animated art project. With dreams of becoming a professional artist, the high school senior discovers that his Jewish grandpa, a San Diego dry cleaner, was heroically saved from Nazi capture in Germany by a young woman when he was a boy.

Distributor in8 Releasing is positioning "The Samuel Project" as an inspiring family friendly comedic drama with an important historical message.

AMC maintains a significant presence in the top 50 DMAs, including the number one or two market share in each of the top 15 DMAs, which includes New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Atlanta and Dallas. The company operates 22 of the 50 highest grossing theatres in the United States.
