About
NewYorkCoin (NYC) had a very similar beginning to Bitcoin in that the original developer of NewYorkCoin (github.com/nycoin/nycoin) literally disappeared at launch. NYC is the only other cryptocurrency besides Bitcoin that has an unknown developer that disappeared at launch, whose identity remains unknown to date and has never been heard from since launching coin. The original 'newyorkc' code is open-source and viewable to the public at github code repository. NewYorkCoin (NYC) is a completely fair launch coin with no pre-mine or holdbacks, easy low difficulty mining and no network fees to send and receive lightning-fast transactions with confirmations every 30-seconds.
NYC is worldwide retail use crypto. Free worldwide money transfer. Faster than a New York minute!
NewYorkCoin open-source code launched on March 6th, 2014. Original developer has never communicated with anyone since NewYorkCoin was launched. Original developer posted 1 tweet (twitter.com/NewYorkCoin), 2 facebook posts (facebook.com/NewYorkCoin-586472044777456) and only 12 posts on original bitcointalk forum announcement page (bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=499842.0). Last known NYC developer communication was on March 7th, 2014.
NYC was launched at a time when New York regulators were going hard after bitcoin startups and prosecuting the founder of Bit-Instant, Charlie Shrem. NYC is one of the most usable and disruptive cryptocurrencies ever created offering users no network fees, near instant unconfirmed transactions with full confirmations every 30-seconds, low energy mining, fair launch with no hold-backs, scrypt proof-of-work just like Litecoin and 100% open source code.
Early scrypt miners in March 2014 were amazed by NYC's much more usable specs compared to other cryptocurrencies. A worldwide decentralized group of NYC supporters quickly formed and have loyally kept the network confirming transactions every 30-seconds for almost 5 years now.
There was no updating to original nycoin.net website launched by original developer. No updates to social media accounts, no posts from original developer on bitcointalk forum, no communication ever again. An original NYC miner (scryptenthusiast from bitcointalk) created the website 'newyorkco.in' in March 2014 shortly after receiving no response from numerous attempts to contact original developer. A new facebook (facebook.com/NewYorkCoin) and twitter (twitter.com/NewYorkCoinNYC) page were also created for NYC in early 2014. Another original NYC miner started "Coinsprofit" mining pool which became the official mining pool for NewYorkCoin in 2014. The original nycoin.net website was never updated after launching and stayed dormant until the domain name expired in 2015. An early NYC supporter took ownership of nycoin.net domain name in July 2017.
A worldwide group of decentralized miners and crypto enthusiasts have kept NYC's torch lit since 2014.
Between 2015-2017 NewYorkCoin did not have a website or active team overseeing NYC's direction. During this time period, a small cryptocurrency exchange (Coingather) listed NYC and began to mine NYC as well. That exchange unexpectedly vanished in the 2nd half of 2017. Later to find out that their illegal exchange operation in Ohio had been raided by the FBI. Likely taking many early miners NYC permanently out of circulation. THE VAST MAJORITY of NewYorkCoin listed as total "Circulating Supply" have likely been removed from the market. Files get deleted, computers get replaced, hard drives fail or get written over, passwords are forgotten, backup drives get lost, etc. Especially when a coin has a very large blockchain requiring over 1GB+ of storage space and absolutely no liquidity or value for YEARS. Or even a website from mid-2015 thru mid-2017. In early summer 2017, an original miner (scryptenthusiast) rang the alarm on bitcointalk. And NYC supporters quickly answered the call. NYC network nodes were up and running, mining pools were re-established and multiple block explorers were synced with the network.
In January 2018, NYC finally got noticed during Bitcoin's bull stampede to $20,000. A worldwide group of talented developers joined the NYC Community and began updating the aging code, nodes and wallets. NYC has also been attracting high-caliber tech talent from Fortune 100 Companies. After nearly 4 years with no core development team, the NYC Devs have already completed numerous wallet updates, updated nodes, cleaned up NYC code and developed Electrum wallets. The NYC Devs successfully implemented a hardfork on October 29th, 2018 that modernized network security & stability (protecting network against 51% attacks and multipool abuse). Block reward halving began at block #4,800,000 and will continue every 500,000 blocks until block #7,300,000. The future is shining bright for NYC.
