Long only / Short only are terms that I use in most of my technical analyses; therefore, I am going to explain in a few words what they mean.
"Long only" and "Short Only" are terms from the one-way trading method
"Long only", means that trading is only recommended on buy positions on the presented time unit or the shorter time units.
This expression does not necessarily mean that buying immediately is recommended. It recommends staying focused on buying opportunities based on a trader’s personal trading strategy.
"Short only" is simply the opposite of "Long only".
"Short only", means that trading is only recommended on sell positions on the presented time unit or the shorter time units.
This expression does not necessarily mean that selling immediately is indicated by the strategy. It recommends staying focused on selling opportunities based on a trader’s personal trading strategy.
"Long only" and "Short Only" always depend on one key point.
For example, a strategy indicates is: "Long is only above 1.10" which would mean that it is the strategy isto only trade buy (long) positions for as long as the price remains above 1.10.
It is possible that the price will fall below 1.10. Without further indications in the strategy(ex: "Short only under 1.0950"), that implies that under 1.10 to the strategy suggests remain flat (without a position).
After a low of 1.0980 the price finally rebounds immediately above 1.10; the recommendation "Long only above 1.10" re-activates. Just because the price has returned to below 1.10 does not mean that "Long only above 1.10" is no longer valid.
NB: the example would be identically opposite in the case of a "Short only" recommendation.
